Just 25 minutes from the Daniel Oduber International airport (LIR) is the quiet, low-density beach town of Playa Hermosa – one of the closest beaches from LIR airport, an easy drive on good roads. Playa Hermosa is a peaceful community offering a high quality lifestyle with a great mix of North & South Americans, Europeans and Ticos (Costa Ricans). Beautiful luxury homes and condos, plus a few small hotels as well as full time residences are situated on the hills and off the main roads surrounding Hermosa. Playa Hermosa’s climate is always warm, and although its weather is tropical, Playa Hermosa and the surrounding area gets less rainfall than any other area in the country. Hermosa is a great place for retirement, vacation or investment with homes and condos starting in the low $200,000 range and as high as several million $$.
The beach itself is not white and not black sand; it’s sometimes called cinnamon or salt & pepper. The rich volcanic soil gives it the darker hue. There are no riptides or undercurrents and swimming is safe & easy for all ages. Playa Hermosa – Beautiful Beach – lives up to its name, you should see it for yourself. The ocean generally has very small and soft waves – nothing like some its counterparts, where surfing or rocky breaks exist. Playa Hermosa prides itself on being a certified Blue Flag / Bandera Azul beach. Bandera Azul requires strict adherence to specific environmental qualifications for cleanliness, water purity and waste removal. The Blue Flag program in Costa Rica is similar to the original program founded in Spain and utilizes similar criteria for beach safety and sanitation.
Playa Hermosa offers great hotels, vacation rentals, bars and restaurants as well - Ginger, Villa del Sueño, Aqua Soprt, La Finestera, El Velero Hotel and the Bosque Del Mar Hotel (Playa Hermosa Hotel). There is a Spa, movie theatre, and miniature golf, gymnasium as well as some of the best Pizza around. While visiting Hermosa, be sure to stop Luperon grocery store, stocking a wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, fish, frozen foods, diary products, fresh daily baked bread, full liquor store selection, a wide inventory of staples, personal care items, cleaning supplies and other items normally found in larger grocery stores, there’s even a pharmacy for your convenience! Playa Hermosa also has a new, modern movie theater, several bars and restaurants, a few small hotels and of course one of the best cared for beaches in Guanacaste. Come visit to see for yourself!
Playa Hermosa is in the midst of some great future projects. The community is bordered on the south side by the Steve Case Cacique Project, which will see an Andre Agassi & Stefi Graf tennis center along with a One and Only Hotel, Miraval Spa, golf course, equestrian center and many other amenities. Mr. Case has stated he is committed to completing this huge project while minimizing the environmental impact – lots of natural green area with state of the art environmental conservation programs. To the north is Playa Panama which will be home to the new Westin Hotel, Grand Occidental, Hilton Papagayo and more on the way. There are many positive changes planned for this beautiful area.
All in all, Playa Hermosa offers many great attributes and amenities to those looking for their “Piece of Paradise”
