Guanacaste, Costa Rica by Joseph Emanuelli

Real information and stories from Guanacaste , Costa Rica. Presneted by a long time expat living and working in Costa Rica
Happy Independence Day Costa Rica!

This Sunday, Septemebr 15th is Independence Day in Costa Rica.  Costa Rica along with Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, all received their independence by signed “La Acta de Independencia,” which asserted their freedom from the Spanish Empire. Costa Rica did not become a totally independent state until 1838, when it separated from the Central American republic.

There will be parades and festivals and parties all over the country, I even have a Costa Rica Flag attached to the inside of my windshield.

Here is a great article from the Tico Time detailing some of the history and the festivities that will take place this weekend. The one sad thing one of my Tico friends said to me on Thursday was that, the holiday falls on a Sunday this year so “we get no 3 day weekend” and “it is tough to go back to work Monday with a hangover” Pura Vida!
