Costa Rica Decreases Car Import Tax

In an attempt to lower the price of newer cars Costa Rica has announced that it will be lowing the import tax on vehicles 4-6 years old to a flat 30%. This is a drastically lower rate than the 53% percent that use to be charged to 6 year old vehicles that were imported into the country.

With this new decrease in taxes the goal is to decrease the price of newer more Eco-friendly vehicles and get some of the estimated 359,000 registered vehicles that are 20+ years old off of the road. Inevitably this is another law targeting the Costa Rican environment with a large plus on the wallets of consumers.

How long will it take for us to see the price drop reflected at the auto dealers, that is yet to be seen. But this is the right move and something that has been a long time in the works.
